Truth Still Wrecks
Truth. What is truth? Truth is the original.
“I am the Lord, your God.” EXODUS 16:11-13
“Behold, I make all things new.”REVELATION 21:5
Truth is love.
“I’d sell off the whole world to get you back. I’d trade the entire creation just for you.”
ISAIAH 43:4 MSG
The truth will wreck.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” MATTHEW 34
The truth is that we are afraid.
“What are you afraid of? Or who? Some man or woman who will soon be dead?…You’ve forgotten me, God, the one who made you…who whips up the waves and stirs the seas.” ISAIAH 51:12-15 MSG
The truth is we have lost our faith.
“God has lost track of me, he doesn’t care what happens to me…” ISAIAH 40:27-31 MSG
The truth is we believe we know better than God–the Creator of the Universe. We challenge Him. And He answers.
“Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: ‘Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me:’”
JOB 40:7 NKJV
“…Who is like me? Look at the night skies: Who do you think made all this? Who marches this army of stars out each night, counts them off, calls each by name…” ISAIAH 40:25-26 MSG
The truth is that the Kingdom of heaven has been inside of us all along.
“But His WORD was in my HEART like a burning fire
Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,
AND I COULD NOT.”
JEREMIAH 20:9 NKJV
The truth? We are in desperate need of a Savior.
“There is nothing said or done that cannot be forgiven.” MATTHEW 12:31
The truth is that our Theology has become our God.
“Everybody is looking for proof, but you’re looking for the wrong kind. All you want is something to titillate your curiosity, satisfy your lust for miracles.” LUKE 11:29-30 MSG
The truth is that Christ did not come to start a new religion.
“I am after mercy, NOT RELIGION.” MATTHEW 9:13 MSG
The truth is that this was never meant to be easy.
“It is not success you are after, but survival.” MATTHEW 10:23 MSG
Truth is not being obligated by your families.
“Obedience is thicker than blood.” LUKE 8:21 MSG
The truth is that we have been separated from the source.
“Anyone who tries to live by his own effort, independent from God, is doomed to failure.” GALATIONS 3:9-10 MSG
“You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live.” EPHESIANS 2:1-6 MSG
The truth is that we have been called to shake the very foundations of this place.
“…These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.” ACTS 17:6 NKJV
When was the last time you turned the world upside down?
“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 TIMOTHY 4: 3-5 NIV
Myths like Jesus has come to make you a millionaire, that God wants you to live your best life now.
“I have come to start a fire on this earth…I’ve come to change everything, turn everything right-side up…do you think I came to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I’ve come to disrupt and confront.“ LUKE 12:49
The truth is maybe, just maybe, we’ve gotten this whole thing wrong.
“I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects,
your pretentious slogans and goals.
I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
That’s what I want. That’s all I want.“

Truth begins and ends with Jesus.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” JOHN 14:6 NIV
The truth? As a writer, I struggle to write the truth. But the truth has already been written. So today I’m going to let it speak for itself. Today, I am going to let it wreck this place.
